September 24, 1919



Today September 24th 2009 is the 90th anniversary of Robert and Tillie Baas Wegener's marriage. They were married at the German Lutheran Church in Whittemore, Iowa. After their wedding they had dinner at the home of Herman and Elizabeth Baas. Robert and Tillie were at home on the Wegener family farm north of Whittemore after their honeymoon to Dubuque Iowa.
Historical Perspective: In 1919 Woodrow Wilson was President of the United States. In October 1919 Wilson suffered a massive stroke and was partially paralyzed. The great world wide flu pandemic of 1918 -1919 was coming to an end in Iowa. Robert's father, Louis Wegener came to the United States 51 years ago from Abbensen Hannover Germany.
